Bloxwich Road Closures and Parking for the Olympic Torch

Walsall for 2012 logo

Further information has been received from Walsall Council’s Walsall for 2012 website regarding Bloxwich road closures and parking restrictions for the Olympic Torch Relay this Saturday 30 June which will be of interest to our readers. This was originally passed on to inform local businesses and is edited below for use here.

Road closures – Restrictions – Business Responsibilities

A bumper crowd is expected in Bloxwich on Saturday 30th June and Walsall Council needs to work alongside all our businesses to ensure it’s a safe, fun and enjoyable day for everyone.

With this in mind and to minimise any disruption please be aware of the following:

Road Closures

Road closures on the day across Bloxwich will be minimal. High Street and adjoining junctions (Lichfield Road, Bell Lane, The Green, Park Road, Wolverhampton Road, Samuel Street, Victoria Avenue, Harrison Street, Market Place, Elmore Row, Church Street, and Elmore Green Road) will see road closures in place from approximately 11:30am to 12:30pm.

As the convoy passes through some of the side roads coming into and out of Bloxwich (Lichfield Road, Bell Lane, The Green, Park Road, Wolverhampton Road, Samuel Street, Victoria Avenue, Harrison Street, Market Place, Elmore Row, Church Street, and Elmore Green Road) will be temporarily closed as a rolling road closure to allow safe passage.

Walsall Council does not envisage any disruption to pedestrian traffic in the area but 30 minutes prior to the torch passing marshals will manage the road to keep the route secure. This will be lifted once the torch has passed.

Restrictions

Due to the nature of the event there will be some restrictions in place. Walsall Council asks that businesses work with them and plan ahead.

  • Deliveries:  Due to road closures businesses on and around the torch relay route are requested to make alternative arrangements on the day. This includes Cash In Transit operators especially in High Street due to this being the main through route for the torch.
  • Contractors: Again businesses are requested to make alternative arrangements for any contractors planned on the day including window cleaners and maintenance contractors.
  • A Boards & Shop Displays: It is anticipated the town centre will attract a higher than usual footfall and in some areas a build up of congestion. To ease pedestrian foot flow Walsall Council requests that all A Boards & shop displays are removed from the public highway between the hours 10:30am and 12:30pm

On Street High Street Parking
High Street parking will be closed from all day especially from 10am to 4pm during the event. Cones and signage will highlight the closed bay. The cones will be put in place from on the day from 7am to ensure no one is parked in the bays during the designated times. The cones will be lifted after 4pm to enable High Street parking.

For more information on road closures, restrictions and closed parking bays please contact Kate Goodall on 01922 652821 or Steve Griffith on 01922 652558.
