Rubbish and recycling collection dates over the festive season

Festive Rubbish
Changes to the rubbish and recycling collections in the Walsall borough over Christmas have been announced.

Collections will be cancelled on just one day this year – December 26th – and extra rubbish and recycling will be taken for those residents on Monday January 2nd.

Brown garden waste bins will not be collected between 19th December 2011 and 10th February 2012 and opening hours at Walsall Council’s household waste and recycling centres will also be affected. The tips at Fryer’s Road Bloxwich and Merchant’s Way Aldridge will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, open as usual on all other days.

Councillor Tom Ansell, cabinet member for environment at Walsall Council, said: “This time of year is incredibly busy for people but we are asking them to take a few minutes to familiarise themselves with the seasonal rubbish and recycling arrangements.

“Only one collection day has been cancelled this year due to Christmas Day and New Year’s Day falling on a weekend. Residents in the areas affected by the closure will be able to put extra rubbish and recycling out on Monday January 2nd.

Information on the Christmas arrangements is available in borough libraries, leisure centres, Blakenall Village Centre, Collingwood Centre in Pheasey, the First Stop Shop, the First Stop Express which visits eight areas a week, the waste and recycling sites at Fryers Road, Bloxwich and Merchants Way, Aldridge, Walsall Leather Museum and The New Art Gallery.

People can also visit Walsall Council’s website at www.walsall.gov.uk , contact Streetpride on 01922 653344 or email Streetpride@walsall.gov.uk

Residents are asked not to put Christmas tree lights into their green recycling bins and are being advised that if there is severe snowfall over the festive period this will affect collections.
